Swiss Alpine Journey
Three bases, one rail pass and the two summits worth the money. Built around the scenic trains, not around them.
Home/Destinations/Switzerland
Central Europe
Glacier trains, lake steamers and villages that look unreasonable in person. Slow travel done at Swiss punctuality.
Overview
Switzerland is a train holiday. A Swiss Travel Pass covers rail, boats and most mountain lifts, and the scenic routes — Glacier Express, Bernina, GoldenPass — are the itinerary rather than the transfer between stops.
A first trip usually runs Zurich → Lucerne → Interlaken/Grindelwald → Zermatt → Geneva, with a lake day and one big summit. Add Jungfraujoch or Gornergrat, not both, unless you have ten nights.
Popular attractions

Vineyard terraces at Lavaux and a castle on the water.
