Why go to Dubai
Dubai works best as a short, high-contrast trip. Two days for the modern city — Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Marina and a beach afternoon at JBR — and two for everything else: the Al Fahidi historical district, an abra across the creek for one dirham, the gold and spice souks, and a desert evening.
It is also the easiest international trip to run with children or with parents. Distances are short, everything is air-conditioned, and the metro genuinely works.

Travel tips
- Dress modestly in older districts and religious sites; malls and beaches are relaxed.
- Nol card covers metro, tram and buses — cheaper than taxis for two or more journeys a day.
- Friday brunch is a Dubai institution; book two weeks ahead for the popular ones.
- June–August is very hot (45°C+) but hotel rates drop sharply if you plan an indoor itinerary.
