United Arab Emirates
Skyline theatrics, dune-bashing at golden hour and a souk-to-supercar contrast that somehow works. Easy visas, five-hour flight, zero jet lag.
Overview
Dubai works best as a short, high-contrast trip. Two days for the modern city — Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Marina and a beach afternoon at JBR — and two for everything else: the Al Fahidi historical district, an abra across the creek for one dirham, the gold and spice souks, and a desert evening.
It is also the easiest international trip to run with children or with parents. Distances are short, everything is air-conditioned, and the metro genuinely works.
Popular attractions
Levels 124/125 for the classic view; 148 if you want the lounge and shorter queues.
Dune drive, camel ride, falcon display and a BBQ dinner under lights.
Yacht cruise, the Walk, and the zipline over the marina.
Wind-tower houses, the coffee museum and an abra crossing.
The Pointe, Atlantis and Aquaventure — a full family day.
Architecturally the most interesting building in the city right now.
